Letter to Greg Dyke - Human Rights and the 2018 World Cup

Dear Greg,

2018 World Cup

I am writing regarding the 2018 World Cup. As I know you will be aware, there are very grave concerns about human rights and also about racism in Football, if the World Cup is held in Russia, as planned.

On top of that, there is of course, the FIFA process through which Russia secured the 2018 competition. My understanding is that the Russian Federation has not cooperated with the investigation into the bidding process and there are still very serious questions and allegations which have not been satisfactorily addressed (and probably never will be due to the destruction of computers and relevant evidence).

As you will know, these points are quite rightly being made by the former Football Association chairman, Lord Triesman: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33663478

I haven’t been able to find any recent statements from you on your current position on a boycott. I should, therefore, be grateful for your response to the calls for a boycott of the 2018 World Cup.

I have written to Tracey Crouch at the DCMS in similar terms. It would be helpful to know whether you or your staff at the FA have had recent discussions with Ministers or their staff on this point.

Yours sincerely,

Caroline
