Letter to Justine Greening MP - End Violence Against Children

Rt Hon Justine Greening MP

Date: 1st June 2015

Dear Justine,

As one of Unicef’s parliamentary champions, I want to take this opportunity to urge you to ensure that the UK takes a lead in keeping children safe.

No child should suffer and violence, yet one dies every 5 minutes because of violence. On city streets, in communities, schools and homes, children are attacked, exploited, abused and killed.

This is a scandal, and we need to prioritise a global target to end violence against children in the new global development goals being agreed at the UN in September. Please will you put the UK at the forefront of a new global partnership to protect children from violence?

Such a partnership would be bold and visionary. It would bring together countries from around the world to set out ambitious plans, unlock vital resources, and take action to keep children safe from violence. This would help demonstrate to the world that ending violence against children is possible, encouraging even more countries to join the fight to protect children in danger.

I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,
