Dear Norman,
I am writing to you regarding the recent G8 summit on dementia which took place in December. I welcome the announcement of a commitment to attempt to develop a cure or treatment for dementia by 2025 and the news that the UK will be doubling its annual research funding to £132m by 2025 is also very welcome.
I have been contacted by a number of constituents with moving accounts of their own encounters with dementia in their families and asking me to do all I can to further support for research into dementia treatment and/or cures. One constituent reported the distress involved in watching her mother lose her life to Alzheimer’s. Another told me of the life-changing impact on her family of her mother developing early onset Alzheimer’s in her 50s. I urge you to continue to treat the needs of those living with the illness as a priority and to ensure that all that can be done to ensure further research into treatments and/or cures for dementia is pursued.
Yours sincerely,
