Letter to Rt Hon Chris Huhne MP - Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change

The Rt Hon Chris Huhne, MP
Secretary of State

7th March 2011

Dear Chris,

I am writing in support of a number of constituents who work in the successful solar PV industry and who are deeply concerned about the impact of the current review of feed-in tariffs for solar PV.

I cannot understand why this review stretches to all installations over 50 kW.  This seems to be an extremely low threshold, which has thrown many community scale renewable energy schemes into serious doubt.  My constituents would like a logical and reasoned explanation for why this review is covering all solar PV installations above 50 kW.

I already know of two community solar PV schemes near my constituency which are now in turmoil because of this announcement.  Clearly there will be many more which are similarly affected.  I am sure that this was not your intention and I urge you to resolve this situation as soon as possible by, for example, removing all solar PV installations in the built environment from the current review.

I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,

Caroline Lucas, MP, Brighton Pavilion
