Letter to the Prime Minister

The Rt Hon David Cameron MP
10 Downing Street
London Sw1A 0AA

26 May 2011

Dear Prime Minister,

I have been contacted by the mother of British citizen Gary McKinnon. As you will recall, Gary faces extradition to the United States and charges related to accusations of ‘hacking'.

Both you and the Deputy Prime Minister spoke out forcefully in Gary's defence in the run up to the General Election and I am writing to enquire whether this matter was raised during President Obama's recent state visit. Gary's mother describes their lives as a constant nightmare and I am sure you will understand her need to ensure that as much as possible is done to protect her vulnerable son, who you will know suffers from Aspergers' Syndrome.

I believe that Gary should face any charges in a British court and serve any sentence, if he is found guilty, in a British prison. Please can you let me know whether you put this to the President this week and his response?

Yours sincerely,

Caroline Lucas, MP, Brighton Pavilion
