Dear Jane,
I am writing to you about the Anthony Nolan ‘Save a life at 16’ bone marrow donation campaign.
Currently, only 4% of bone marrow registrations come from the 16-20 year old bracket, despite the fact that this group is the most likely to be chosen for donation. As a result, there is a desperate need to improve registration rates amongst young adults.
Anthony Nolan has proposed that the Government introduces measures to include information about bone marrow donation in the letters that 16 year olds receive, notifying them of their National Insurance Number.
I would, therefore, be interested to know the Government’s position on this proposal. I would also like to know what measures the Government is currently taking to improve bone marrow donation and registration rates amongst 16-20 year olds.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter.
Yours sincerely,
