Letter to the Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP -- Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs

Philip Hammond MP -- Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs

Dear Philip,

I met this afternoon with representatives of the Sussex Kurdish Association and they spoke very powerfully about the ongoing threats facing the Kurdish community in Iraq and Syria in particular.

One very concrete thing that would make an enormously positive difference is if Turkey would open up a humanitarian corridor, allowing vital food and provisions to get through to citizens in Kobane, for example.  You’ll know that Turkey is currently blocking this kind of access.

On behalf of the Sussex Kurdish Association I would urge you to do all you can to put pressure on the Turkish government to take action in support of humanitarian aid in the region and to specifically ask that such a corridor is immediately opened up.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
