Am feeling angry that not only is the University of Brighton planning on closing its Phoenix Nursery on Southover Street, which has places for 20 children and is rated as 'outstanding' by Ofsted, but now the University of Sussex is following suit.
The University of Sussex is planning on closing its creche after 30 years of excellent work by those who staff it - work which has recently been recognised as it too is rated 'outstanding' in every area. This is a vital service, used by 80 members of staff and 20 students.
The Universities should be ashamed of these proposed closures.
I've spoken a number of times against the University of Sussex cuts, and it's such a shame that Brighton appears to be going down the same road.
Be they cuts to jobs, courses, UniSex or other essential services, they are a far cry from the 'education, education, education' we heard when Labour first came into Government. 13 years later, and things are looking pretty grim for higher education and the hard working staff who keep it afloat.
