A father and son from Brighton will walk 52 miles from London to Brighton this Friday (15 June) in order to raise money for a local carers' centre.
Michael Bundock and teenager George Bundock, who received an Argus Achievement Award for Carer of the Year in 2010, will set off from Big Ben at about 7pm and walk through the night, aiming to reach Brighton Pier for 2pm the next day.
They are aiming to raise money for the Carers Centre for Brighton and Hove, which offers vital support for people in the city who are caring for a partner, relative or friend - and promotes better understanding of the challenges faced by carers.
Michael Bundock said:
"I did the Brighton Marathon last year for Cancer Research and two half-marathons with my son this year, but this week's night walk is our biggest challenge yet.
"We want to highlight the fantastic work of the Carers Centre and hopefully raise much needed funding to allow them to continue and grow their services.
"Too often teenagers get a negative press, but George is brilliant in helping out with our four autistic boys - and has even been chosen as a torchbearer for the Olympic torch relay.
"He has been with the Young Carers for about 8 years now, so we would love to be able to give something back to them."
Caroline Lucas MP, who is patron of the Carers Centre, said:
"Having seen firsthand the incredible work done by the Carers Centre team to help local carers and their families, I am delighted to support Michael and George in their effort to raise money for the team.
"Walking 52 miles through night and day is no mean feat - it takes serious commitment and stamina - so I very much hope that as many people as possible will support their impressive efforts."
