Brighton ice needs more than lukewarm response

News that a whopping 100 people ended up in hospital today with broken bones after falling on Brighton's icy pavements is really shocking. According to Help the Aged and Age Concern, many older residents who break a limb in a fall never fully recover.

While the Council seems to be working hard to keep the main roads open, the failure to grit side streets and pavements means that many, especially the elderly, feel completely stranded. In a place as full of hills and slopes as Brighton, I'd assumed (like many residents!) that the council would have a plan in the event of snow.
