Bring the troops home from Afghanistan

Caroline joined with Stop The War Coalition and fellow MPs today to deliver a letter to No 10 demanding immediate withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

The Brighton Pavilion MP, who is a Vice President of STWC, said:

"The ongoing occupation of Afghanistan and the civil war within the country have proved devastating for the Afghan people - and increased military action seems only to lead to more violence and greater instability.

"The devastating massacre of 16 Afghan civilians by a US soldier this week, the shocking descrecration of Afghan bodies and the incidents of Koran burning have all contributed to a complete breakdown of trust amongst the Afghan people.

"The UK government must urgently immediate withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan - these men and women are bravely putting their lives on the line fighting an unwinnable war.

"It has long been clear that there is no military solution to this conflict.

"We need to build international support for a peaceful political settlement involving all factions in Afghanistan, the Afghan government, the neighbouring countries.

"We also need to prioritise and promote Afghan-led solutions to enhance economic and political stability in the country."
