Today the Environmental Audit Committee publishes a report on heatwaves, warning that heat-related deaths could treble by 2050 unless the Government takes action.
Commenting on the report, Committee member and Green Party co-leader Caroline Lucas MP said: "Governments around the world have failed to take action quickly enough to avert accelerating climate breakdown. As a result, this year's record breaking summer is likely to be the shape of things to come.
"We know we can expect more severe heatwaves in future – so ministers should be taking urgent action now and reversing policies, like fracking, that are exacerbating the climate crisis still further.
"Obvious first steps would include a home insulation programme – to keep our homes cool, cut energy bills and carbon emissions and create hundreds of thousands of jobs in the process."
