Caroline quizzes Falmer Academy boss on job security

Caroline Lucas has written to Falmer Academy management chief Rod Aldridge asking for reassurance over job security for workers.

The academy, due to open in September this year, has faced media attention recently after it emerged that proposed changes in staffing structure could lead to job cuts.

This follows news that the caretakers cottage was destroyed. only to have to be rebuilt at a cost of £500,000 to Brighton and Hove council.

Caroline Lucas, Green parliamentary candidate for Brighton Pavilion constituency and MEP for the South East, including Brighton, said: "I have written to Mr. Aldridge voicing my concerns that the new structure for senior management will create a top rung of highly paid staff, to the detriment of those paid the lowest, who risk being downgraded or losing their jobs altogether.

"Mr. Aldridge needs to reassure local residents that their school is in safe hands after the troubling accounts we are hearing."

Caroline, who hopes to become the MP for Brighton Pavilion, continued "These proposals would negatively impact on pupils education as well as causing distress to families of the staff concerned.

"Further job losses are the last thing the local area needs during this period of financial uncertainty.

"If Mr. Aldridge is serious about rejuvenating the area socially and locally through Falmer Academy then I hope he will reconsider."
