The government's controversial plan to privatise the Green Investment Bank (GIB) has taken a major step forwards today, as business secretary Sajid Javid announced plans to repeal the legislation that gives ministers control over the bank and specifies green criteria. [1]
Caroline Lucas MP has slammed the decision. She said:
“This is another damaging backwards step by a Government intent on undermining Britain’s low carbon economic success story. The grounds for this ideological privatisation simply don’t stack up and the green criteria should be strengthened, not scrapped. I urge all members of the House of Lords to reject the repealing of this legislation as I shall when it comes to the House of Commons.”
