The actor, who most famously played Mr. Darcy in the BBC production of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, is to attend the Brighton premier of ‘In Prison my Whole Life’.

Brighton and Hove Green Party are inviting city residents to join them tonight (Tuesday 29th September) at the Duke of York’s Picture House, for a screening of the feature-length documentary ‘In Prison My Whole Life’.

The fundraising event will be attended by Colin Firth – who was executive producer of the film and who will be participating in a Q&A session – William Francome, who co-wrote and narrates the feature and Caroline Lucas, Green Party General Election candidate for Brighton Pavilion.

‘In Prison My Whole Life’ looks at the life of imprisoned political activist and former Black Panther member, Mumia Abu-Jamal, who's death sentence for killing a police officer was overturned in 2001 due to errors made during his 1982 hearing.

Director Marc Evans and William Francome, have created a documentary which via its focus on a single miscarriage of justice presents a critique of authoritarianism, racism, capital punishment and police brutality in US society.

The feature-length documentary gives real insight into the lives of the 3,350 people currently on death row in the United States and boasts appearances form Angela Davis, Mos Def, Noam Chomsky, Alice Walker, Snoop Dogg, Steve Earle, and Amy Goodman.

Colin Firth, who has performed in forty films and television productions but who is likely to be best remembered for his role as the brooding Mr. Darcy in the BBC production of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, will be attending the screening which will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

Caroline Lucas today said: “This is a vital documentary that shines a light on an issue seldom reported by much of the media. I am delighted Brighton and Hove Green Party is organising such an important event to raise the profile of the plight of Mumia Abu-Jamal and other US prisoners currently on death row.”
