Council slipping over bad weather - again

A fresh snowfall today, but no fresh approach from the council.

Refuse and recycling collections are suspended. Public toilets are shut. And though all buses have been cancelled, meaning that central shopping areas will be hard to access for most, these are the ones prioritised for gritting.

I find it strange that though many residents may not make it to the corner shop to buy a pint of milk, they are expected to head into the centre to go shopping.

On top of this, the local salt bin situation is a bad joke. In Brighton's Regency ward, for example, there are two salt bins for almost 8,000 people. Not good enough!

In the Argus today, residents were encouraged to check up on elderly neighbours to see if they needed bread or milk, or simply to show a friendly face. People are advised to salt the ice outside their doorsteps, making streets a little safer.

This is the sort of action that will get Brighton through the snowy weather - it's just a pity that we can't rely on the council to help as much as they should.
