When former Labour minister Stephen Byers described himself in last week's Dispatches programme as 'a cab for hire' for lobbyists, it seemed to me that this rotten Labour administration had hit a new low.
The unseemly exhibition of Byers, Hoon and Hewitt prostituting their wares is symptomatic of the venality into which New Labour has slipped.
But who can be surprised by this behaviour from ex-Ministers, when we have an ex- Prime Minister, Tony Blair, who has himself made a fortune (including money made on advice given on oil deals) trading on the influence he garnered whilst ‘serving' the people?
I happened to be on a panel discussion in Hove last week with Geoff Atkinson, maker of the Channel 4 Dispatches programme which made the latest revelations.
He hinted that there are more to come.
It is sad, because it all started with such hope. That is why Labour's betrayal is so great.
If people vote in Green MPs at the General Election, they will not be for sale.
If they trust me with their vote to be their MP, I would be an independent voice for the people of Brighton - not a voice controlled by 'Big Business' or lobbyists.
I pledge that, if elected, being an MP for Brighton Pavilion would be my full-time and only job.
Furthermore, as Leader of the Green Party, I will ask any Green MP who is elected to make it their full-time and only job.
Being trusted to be an MP is an honour and is a big enough, important enough and well paid enough job as it is.
