This week I have been doing what I can to ensure that a proposed international Arms Trade Treaty is as effective as it can possibly be.
I have met with concerned constituents about this and written to Ministers, as well as tabled some questions in Parliament.
The success of the Arms Trade Treaty must be measured against its ability to end the needless and massive loss of human life and livelihoods caused by the arms trade as a whole.
The UK Government has a key role to play in securing global agreement on this and must make sure that all loopholes which could allow illicit or irresponsible arms trading are eliminated - with military precision.
Many of my constituents have campaigned passionately for a robust, watertight and enforceable Arms Trade Treaty.
When the final text is signed at the UN in July, I want to be able to tell my constituents that UK ministers have genuinely listened to their concerns and secured an effective and comprehensive Arms Trade Treaty that puts human rights centre stage.
