Meeting Varndean College students

Had an interesting session at Varndean College today, where I spoke to A Level students on the topic of 'Why you should vote Green'. It's inspiring seeing young people so interested and informed about politics, and asking challenging and well thought out questions.

I'm really looking forward to speaking in a similar setting at Brighton and Hove High School tomorrow.

In many ways our education system is failing young people - our universities are facing cuts, tuition fees are increasingly off-putting and there's an obsession with league tables that does not take into account many aspects of education.

But my time at Varndean today has given me renewed faith in the potential of our young people. Politicians should spend more time engaging with young people - maybe then they'd be less likely to tar young people with the 'apathy' brush, or see them as dangerous thugs to be avoided.
