I was delighted to see the following news release from bookmakers Victor Chandler in relation to our growing campaign for the Brighton Pavilion seat in the next general election:
"Bookies Victor Chandler report a run of money for the Green Party to win the Brighton Pavilion constituency in the Next General Election, and the firm admit that they have been forced to cut the price.
“We originally had the Green Party in at 5/1, but we took a lot of money at that price and we cut them to 4/1.” said Victor Chandler’s political spokesman Dave Jenkins. “We were still taking money at 4/1 and we have now been forced to cut them to 10/3. It seems that certain political shrewdies think they have a real chance and are putting their money down.”
The firm also admit that the Greens have been backed in two other constituencies. In Lancaster & Fleetwood bets at 80/1, 66/1, 50/1 were struck and the Greens are now in at 20/1. In the Norwich South constituency the Green Party were originally 50/1 to win the seat, but it has been backed down into 16/1.
“There’s a lot of confidence around the Greens in these markets at the moment and we expect to increase as we draw closer to the next election.” added Jenkins. "
I'd bet that the Labour team down here in Brighton won't be expecting similar odds from the bookies if their recent disaster in the European elections was anything to go by...
