Poisonous talk and threats have no place in democratic politics

In the aftermath of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's death, I have read some very interesting commentary about what is and isn't acceptable to say about politicians, dead or otherwise.

I was reminded of this debate when I heard that one of Brighton and Hove's Conservative MPs has been receiving threatening tweets and is the subject of an online campaign called 'Is Mike Weatherley dead yet?'

Much as I disagree with the vast majority of Mike's policies, I am appalled that he is being targeted by what is essentially a hate campaign and condemn the use of such tactics.

Far better to win arguments using facts and intelligent persuasion rather than bullying and intimidation.
