I am deeply concerned by the recent comments on gay marriage made by a number of senior clerics in the Church of England and Roman Catholic Church.

As the MP for a constituency with a large and vibrant LGBTQI community, I am proud to stand up for each and every person's basic human rights, which include the right to equality.

The Equal Love campaign, which I helped launch in Parliament with Peter Tatchell just over a year ago, is calling for all couples, gay or straight, to have equal access to both marriage and to civil partnerships.  

It's crucial to end discrimination when it comes to relationships and marriage, and I will continue to call on the Government to do just that.
