Caroline Lucas will this evening be taking part in a political 'speed date', organised by the University and College Union (UCU.
The Make Education Count People's Panel event will be held at the Friends Meeting House at 5.15pm this evening, where Caroline will be talking to a panel about education, university funding and the proposed cuts at the University of Sussex, amongst other topics.
The panel will include an access tutor, an access student, a student representative at the University of Sussex, an A-Level student at Varndean College, and someone whose job is under threat at the University of Sussex.
Speaking ahead of the event, Caroline, who is tipped by pollsters to become the MP for Brighton Pavilion, said:
"I'm really looking forward to talking to the panel about Green opposition to the proposed creche closures, the axing of vital local sexual health service UniSex, the threat of job losses at the University of Sussex, higher tuition fees and cuts to University funding - all of which I have campaigned against."
"Under Labour, locally we are seeing our schools turned into ineffective academies where control is wrested from parents and turned over to wealthy donors. Tuition fees have been introduced, Universities face cuts, and management staff are earning more and more - all this from a party who 13 years ago were shouting about education from the rooftops. The Green Party would scrap academies, giving control back to teachers and parents.
"We are the only party which remains opposed to top up fees, and we believe education should be free for all who want it - not just those who can afford it."
