Having led the Opposition Day debate on the Government’s controversial bedroom tax last month alongside MPs from Plaid Cymru and SNP, I'm delighted at the announcement by Iain Duncan Smith today of a partial u-turn on the policy.
This eleventh hour decision to exempt foster carers and families with children in the armed forces who are planning to return home from the bedroom tax is a huge win for social justice.
It's also a clear sign that the Government is beginning to recognise just how flawed and unfair this policy really is.
However, I think ministers should now go further and exempt disabled people too in order to protect the most vulnerable from losing their homes.
Even better would be for the Government to scrap this cruel and counterproductive measure altogether. But that may be too much to hope for...
