Trains to Brighton and Lewes

I'm opposed to the Lib Dem proposal (by Lewes MP Norman Baker) to divert train capacity away from Brighton. Under his idea, we would have fewer trains running between Gatwick and Brighton. The answer is not simply diverting trains to routes to Lewes, but investing in more rolling stock for the Gatwick-Lewes part of the network.

I'm the only candidate in Brighton Pavilion calling for full public ownership of our trains. We need a co-ordinated and affordable national public transit scheme.

This past January, Norman Baker said British rail passengers pay the highest fares in Europe. Then he said that the Lib Dems would freeze UK rail fares ... at the highest level in Europe. If we have more frequent and affordable services, and less complicated fares, then we'll have more people switching to using trains.

As a Green MP, I will support votes on new track and new rolling stock in Parliament.
