Thought I'd report back on yesterday's meeting with Mark Jones from the Brighton and Hove Hotels Association.
Mark and I had a very interesting discussion on how we can ensure that tourism continues to thrive in Brighton. As one of the city's biggest local employers, it has a crucial role to play.
Mark spoke about the importance of giving people new reasons to come to the city, such as the marathon in April. Conference trade is also key to the industry - hopefully when the Brighton Centre (eventually!) gets refurbished this will be a bigger incentive for organisations to book conferences here.
It's also important to the industry that Brighton keeps up the quality of the tourism services provided - currently Brighton is home to some of the best 'BnB's in the country.
I visited the wonderful Brighton House BnB, which is aiming to be as 'green' as possible, with green electricity, recycling facilities throughout the hotel, and, of course, delicious locally grown organic produce for when the sea air hunger kicks in!
