Dear Karen,

I am writing to you about your pre-recess update on the Sky/Fox merger. During your statement you noted that you had not had enough time to make a decision on the referral of the proposed merger to the CMA for a Phase 2 investigation. You also stressed that this decision may be made over the summer recess period.

I have heard from a considerably number of constituents who are concerned that making a decision over summer recess will undermine parliamentary democracy, as MPs will not be able to evaluate your final decision.

I agree and therefore urge you to ensure that no final decisions are made until the House is once again sitting and to ensure that MPs have the democratic opportunity to scrutinise the final decision.
