The Government's guidance on upholding environmental standards if there's no Brexit deal has revealed the long-awaited environmental regulator won't be established until the Environment Bill passes next summer, meaning the UK will be without a green watchdog for several months after Brexit.
Caroline said:
"If the Government grasped the scale of the environmental challenges we face, it would have started preparations for a new regulator back in 2016. Today's so-called plan for a no-deal Brexit shows they have failed to put any protections in place.
"With no hint of an environmental watchdog expected before next summer, ministers have just declared open season for polluters.
"The Government must urgently announce interim measures to ensure our rivers, countryside, seas and wildlife are protected no matter what happens next March."
