Energy fix - what a waste?

One piece of heartening news amongst the usual gloom was to hear about the innovative Sussex farmer - Gwyn Jones - who has developed a system for turning farm waste into energy. Using something called an anaerobic digester (sounds far less savoury than it actually is, I'm told) Mr Jones is generating a megawatt of power per hour by transforming farm waste into gas, which can then be burnt to produce electricity. Although clearly on only a micro-scale at present, such schemes as this point the way for other alternative-energy development.

Brighton (and Hove!) could do the same - by collecting the food waste from houses and putting it through the same process, but despite pressure from my Green councillor colleagues  (link to http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/4661478.Slop_buckets_could_solve_Brighton_s_food_waste_problem/) the Conservative administration seem as resistant to change as ever. Where's the joined up thinking?
