Caroline Lucas local MEP and parliamentary candidate for Brighton Pavilion constituency at the forthcoming general election met Brighton residents to discuss proposals for a 'Good Neighbours' campaign on Sat 5 July.
Caroline is backing the initiative which is targeted at Brighton's Hanover and Elm Grove area.
The area's local Green councillors have taken up the initiative in response to concerns about noise, especially from shared houses and people returning home late at night.
Caroline said: "Hanover and Elm Grove is a vibrant and densely-populated community that is home to young single people, many of them students, as well as families and older people.
“By and large they get on pretty well together.
“I really enjoyed the meeting, which brings residents together to address the concerns and decide a way forward, and and allows me to see what lessons I can learn for communities across the rest of my South-East England constituency.”
The Good Neighbours Campaign is the brainchild of local councillors Georgia Wrighton, Bill Randall and Vicky Wakefield-Jarrett who received a positive response to their idea in a recent ward newsletter.
The three councillors work with the police, universities, council officers and residents on individual complaints – now they want to hear the wider community’s ideas.
Local shops and businesses and the Hanover Community Association are being asked for their views.
Local pubs, who recently launched a neighbourhood 'pub watch' scheme, could also be important partners in the campaign.
